viennale ’10 short review

my absolute recommendations are:

balada triste de trompeta
clowns and war and blood and love and hate and drama and revenge and did i mention love? ;-) i also liked the colors of this film!

aurora
slow, calm, almost silent movie about a lonesome man – with the director also being the main actor, great!

paredo
living together in a small apartment in japan – what do you know about those you live with?

machete
(i don’t think that i have to say anything about machete … TRASH at its finest!)

all the other movies i have seen at the viennale 2010 were very good too (well, “passione” wasn’t really my thing).
i liked the amateur actors in “han jia”, the kind of storytelling in “simon werner a disparu” and “ha ha ha”, the sadness of “caterpillar” and the weirdness of “carcasses”.
and i really enjoyed to see some old movies first time in a cinema (“die wuerghand” (silent austrian movie from the 1920s), “god told me to” (larry cohen!!), “the rise and fall of legs diamond” (ray danton as a gangster), …)

kick-ass. hm. okay, okay. you may think “kids, playing superheroes? just another lame hollywood-idea without anything behind it”. thats what i thought, BEFORE i saw the trailer (watch the trailer! NOW!) and the movie (watch the movie as soon as possible!).

kick-ass is a wonderful witty movie about what seperates the (super)heroes and -heroines from the rest of us: a costume and madness.

i may be mad, but not mad enough to put myself in a green overall and go out and stand up for my moral courage against people with GUNS! no, no, i think there is a line, that i won’t cross. but this guy, this normal, common guy, he does it. and he gets his ass kicked. well, maybe thats why he is called kick-ass?

watch the movie, enjoy the music (i loved the soundtrack), meet kick-ass, red mist, hitgirl and big daddy. but don’t try anything like that at home, thats dangerous!

and if you are in the mood, maaybe you should have a look at the comics, too.
